In a weak draft the Redskins trade up. And we trade up with DENVER. Dammit, didn't we give them enough for Portis?

This is just so disheartening. Do you realize that we now only HAVE TWO PICKS ON SATURDAY? TWO.

I'm completely distraught.

Mock Draft

The Toe's Mock Draft. It's an ongoing process as I massage the options.

Taylor and Moss miss workouts.

Dammit. Gibbs is frustrated that Santana Moss and Sean Taylor are missing voluntary offseason workouts. This is the third week of said workouts, and neither one has shown up.

Santana Moss is a brand-new addition to the team, and he's not showing up? Not working out the timings, etc with his new offense? Upsetting his new coach. Brilliant. Taylor at least played here last year, although in the dog house for a while.

This bothers me on a couple of different levels. Be part of the team guys, please the coach, and be team players. We're paying you way too much money for you to be selfish in any way. Hell, if I had half you salary I'd dance on tables if you wanted me to. I could maybe swallow this a little better if we did really well last year. Like won the Super Bowl. But we didn't. There is obviously room for improvement.

Henry will sit and ignore contract....

I really hate it when players jerk their team around like this. I mean, I understand contracts don't mean anything in the NFL. That's fine. I think it's broken to a degree.

But refusing to play? That's bullshit. It's a major-league dick move, and that's what Travis Henry is doing.

"No minicamps. No training camp. No nothing. ... I packed my stuff and left. As soon as the season was over, I was out of there and I didn't have any plans of coming back." - Travis Henry

Being a backup can suck, sure. I can see where you'd see it as affecting your value on the market, your manhood. Whatever. If you have a year left on your contract, make the best of it. Don't pout like a baby little bitch. Suit up and play.

Plaxico to go to Giants.

Dammit. Stupid Plaxico Burress to go to the Stupid New York Giants. This bothers me.

One, its a good get for the Giants who really need an upgrade to their receiving corp for good ol' Eli. Two, this is the second (maybe even third, I'm not positive about McKenzie) solid signing they've had. Third, and this is the most important point, they're in the NFC East. Which means that a) I don't like them and b) they're direct competitors to my beloved 'Skins.

Dammit. I hate it when my rivals better themselves.

The Danny is wrong, and the Toe is right.

A quick not for all here. Generally rebuttals to the lies and filth spread by authors of this fine site (I'm pointing at you Danny-boy) would take place in the comments, where they belong.

But after seeing the book of misdirection and false stats thown out there in the guise of proving that Lav Coles is the second coming of Jerry Fucking Rice I felt the need to repond, here, out front and in public. I never said Lav couldn't catch the ball. He can. For all I know, he catches them with his mouth and chin. He's a dick because of how he wanted out, and how he affected that change.

Monday, March 14

Laveranues Coles, a Redskins great.

I must defend Lav Coles against the scurrilous charges made by "The Big Toe". If "Toe" really believes that stuff, he must have been hanging out with Dexter Manley, if you know what I mean.

Lav Coles was the only shining spot in that wretched, comedically bad offense that the Skins fielded last year. For the first half of the season, he had to shag passes from the geriatric, noodle-armed Mark Brunnell and for the last half of the season he had to work with the wildly inaccurate Patrick Ramsey. The Skins QBs had an average QB rating of just around 70, with Brunell having the worst QB rating in the NFL and Ramsey ranking in the bottom 5 as well among QBs who had at least 14 attempts per game.

Of course we can't place all of the blame on the Skins' QBs. Despite the return of the Offensive Line coach from Mount Olympus, Joe Bugel, the Skins starting QBs were sacked 38 times last year, yet again placing the Skins in the top 10 in the NFL in sacks allowed (Well, at least the Skins offense was highly ranked in something).

We also can't forget Joe Gibbs' evident difficulty in game management last year. The Skins clock management would have been bad for third-stringers in a pre-season game. It really appeared that all of those years inhaling gasoline fumes in the NASCAR pits must have taken a bite out of Gibbs' mental acuity.

With the Skins anemic rushing attack, opposing safeties weren't exactly having to cheat up to stop the run, thereby allowing them to comfortably sit back in coverage.

And yet "Toe" thinks that Coles catching 90 passes was evidence of the Skins doing him favors? Who else were they going to throw it to? Rod Gardner? It's not like Rod Gardner (the Michael Westbrook of the 21st century) was drawing the double coverage or even the best opposing corner either. With all of these factors, Coles still managed to have one of the best seasons a Redskins WR ever had.

And with players as pathetic as Brunnell pulling down $5 million a year, I'd have been holding out for more money too. (Though I did hear that Brunnell restructured his contract recently, taking a $1 million bargain. A grand gesture from the one of the worst QBs in the NFL last year.

I don't recall reading anybody questioning Lav Coles' work ethic or effort out on the field. It has to say something too that Chad Pennington was willing to accept a $2 million/per year pay cut to get Coles back to the Jets.

"Toe", Lav Coles deserves your gratitude, not your scorn. As you correctly mentioned, Coles had more receptions in a season than any Skins WR other than Art Monk and Coles got his receptions under considerably more difficult circumstances than Monk ever had to deal with. Lav Coles belongs in the pantheon of Redskins heroes such as (the ever more senile and incoherent) Sonny Jurgensen, John Riggins, Billy Kilmer and the aforementioned Monk.

Brown and Arrington.

Redskins might reunite Brown with Arrington.

This could end up being a great steal, if we get him for the right price. The 'Skins really, really, really need a pass-rushing end. Greg Williams and Greg Blache are very good at developing defensive lineman. We need defensive lineman.

If he can stay healthy, and if we can get a decent price, this would be a great fit.
